Community Medical Center Now Offers 24/7 Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Provides patients with access to the latest technology around-the-clock.

Community Medical Center is expanding access to advanced surgical care with 24/7 robotic-assisted surgery, providing patients with access to high-precision, minimally-invasive robotic-assisted procedures for urgent and emergent surgical needs. Community is currently the only hospital in the area offering a dedicated robotics team 24/7 for minimally-invasive procedures.

It is important to note that the da Vinci Surgical System does not perform surgery on its own. The surgeon remains in control throughout the entire procedure, using the robotic system as an advanced surgical tool. The technology translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body, allowing surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions with enhanced precision, control and visualization.

The expanded availability means patients who require urgent or emergent surgery after hours or on weekends can benefit from the precision of robotic-assisted technology without unnecessary treatment delays or limitations from alternative surgical approaches. It also offers several benefits, including smaller incisions, less tissue trauma, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and improved cosmetic outcomes.

“Having access to robotic surgery 24/7 gives our patients another important option when urgent or emergent surgery is needed,” said Dr. Dillon Morris, trauma medical director and minimally-invasive and advanced GI surgeon at Community Medical Center. “Having the assistance of the robot allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision. For patients, that can mean less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster return to their normal activities. This is a significant benefit for patients who come through our emergency room after hours.”

Community Medical Center continues to invest in advanced surgical technology to expand access to robotic-assisted care. Last year, the hospital added an additional da Vinci robot to increase capacity and support the growing need in the community. Robotic-assisted spine surgery and robotic-assisted knee surgery have also been introduced, further expanding the hospital’s robotic surgical capabilities. In the first half of this year, Community Medical Center has seen approximately a 57% increase in robotic-assisted surgical cases, demonstrating the growing demand for this advanced technology and the importance of expanding access to robotic surgery in the region.
